I have a 67 VW Bug that I use as my almost daily driver and without fail this happens to me. I’ll be cruising at highway speeds and come upon a slow driver in the right lane and go to pass them. Feeling threatened, the driver will remember where the gas pedal is and speed up. Most of the time, I’ll still get around them but there are a lot of persistent assholes in NoVa and I’ll just slow up and move to the right lane.

I have noticed that the main culprits of the asshole brigade are:

A. Mustangs

B. BMWs (all types)

C. GMC/FORD/WHATEVERTHEHELL Box Vans

I would replace C with Black Douche Dodge RAM or F150 FX4

A and B are spot on.

Half the time they are on the d@mn phone then look up when you try to pass and accelerate up just enough to block - because getting passed means they are a loser and not manly!

Mustang, BMW and I would add Audi drivers are definitely the worst offenders.

Happens all the time with me. Depending on the car I am, I can usually get them up to a pretty high speed (just last week I got a Honda Odyssey to 100ish mph cruise speed) and use them as cop bait. Then they get scared, slow down (usually next to a lot of other cars), anger me because they start blocking the left lane. So I pass on the right, and they begin to accelerate again. I either A. Fly by them, or B. Wish the plague and slow death on them if I’m in one of my slower cars.

I did that very thing the other day and got him going at least 80 (I was up around ~70 which is the upper limits of my machined) and I slowed down cause I knew there was a cop up ahead hidden behind the construction stuff. Yep, he got nailed.

Haha that’s an amazing feeling. I once had one of those Saturn cuv’s tailgating me with his high beams on after I flashed to pass him (hogging left lane). I kept speeding up to get him to a point where he would stop, but he didn’t. I was right at an area with a known speed trap. I get a faint hit of KA band on my radar dector so my certainty of there being a cop was 100%. There was a hill and an overpass about a 1/4 to 1/2 a mile up the road. The cops stayed right after the overpass. I hit over double the speed limit (with the cuv trying the best to keep up to continue his douche charade), crested the hill with him wayyy behind me, braked hard, got on the on ramp and parked in front of a truck that was there with my lights off. All of a sudden I see this brown blob fly past the hidden officer, and the red and blues go on. Cop had him layed out on the floor and cuffed (speeding over a certain speed is a misdemeanor and arrestable offense in my area). I don’t mind cars following if they’re afraid of getting a ticket as I do speed. But if you tailgate me or be an asshole, things happen.

This happens most often when I pass with cruise-control on. The gradual pass is irksome to the jerks, and they won’t stand for somebody going ever-so-slightly faster than them and getting away with it. If I downshift, blow past them, and get a few hundred feet between us before I settle back to cruise, they don’t latch onto me quite as much.

Do you really want someone driving riiiight next to you at highway speeds for miles until they make the pass? All the while they could be texting, eating, putting on makeup, lighting a cig, falling asleep, etc. If I’m on CC and come to a pass like that, I’ll hit the gas and up my speed a few mph until I pass, then let it drift back down to what I had the cruise set at.
